The schedule makers weren't very kind to St. Thomas this year with all of the volleyball teams having games during Carnival. Perhaps their minds were on snow-cones and talent show.
The 5th grade Blue team lost two matches to St. Monica and St. Mark. The White team split their two matches with St. Monica and St. Pats. The sixth grade D1 team swept St. Pats and Prince of Peace while the D2 White team went 1-2 by beating St. Paul and losing to St. Monica. The D2 Blue team won both of their matches, beating St. Pius and St. Pats. TheD1 gorls of 7th grade lost a close match to cross-town rival St. Bernard, and the d2 girls lost a double header to CHrist the King and St. Pius. The Varsity D1 8th grade girls lost a heartbreaker against All Saints (is that really fair, all of the saints?) in three games. The 8th grade D2 girls lost a close one to St. Augustine. The Boys White team lost to St. Monica while the Blue team defeated St. Joseph's 25-13 in each of their games.

The Football Week In Review
The 5th grade Wildcats played their first home game of the season last Wednesday night as they hunted the St. Marks Lions under the lights on the new turf at Ruffino Stadium at Bishop Lynch High School. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead by blocking a punt and running it in for a touchdown. They added two more scores before halftime and grabbed a 19-6 lead at the end of the second quarter. They scored again in the third quarter and coasted to a 25-6 victory.
The 5th grade boys had a quick turnaround as they had another game on Sunday, the day after carnival. This marked their third game in seven days. The Wildcats got off to another lightening fast start by scoring twice in the first quarter and added another touchdown in the second. They scored again in the third and fourth and shut out the St. Monica Bearcats by the score of 34 to zilch. The defense played their best game of the young season and brought their record to a DPL leading 3-0. The 5th graders get a well deserved weekend off and play next on Wednesday the 29th at BL against St. Pats.
The 6th graders evened up their record at 1-1 by slaying the Crusaders of CKS by a score of 13-6. The 6th grade Wildcats battle St. Joseph next at BL on Sunday, Sept. 26th at high noon.
The varsity had the weekend of Carnival off but they take the field to battle the Crusaders of CKS at 5:30p on Wednesday. The game is at Crusader Field.

Our Weekend at Rita's
5th Grade
The season got off to a great start for our youngest Wildcats as they traveled to St. Rita's and defeated the Spartans by a score of 27-13. After intercepting a pass for a touchdown in the first quarter, they added another in the second for a half time lead of 13-6. The Wildcats added a touchdown run in the third followed by a touchdown pass in the final stanza to seal the victory. On the defensive side of the ball, they intercepted 4 passes and held the powerful Rita Spartans in check all day. A special thank you to all of the cheerleaders who braved the heat and humidity to help cheer the Wildcats to their first victory.
6th Grade
Our JV Wildcats played a very hard fought game against the Spartans in the blazing sun on Sunday and came up just a bit short losing 13-6. The 6th graders look forward to meeting this team again, perhaps in the playoffs. The blazing sun and rising humidity did little to dampen the spirit of the cheerleaders and the football players appreciate the enthusiam the girls show.
Varsity
The Varsity team played a very strong Rita team and left it all on the field. Although, they didn't prevail in the game, they would like to thank their families and the cheerleaders for cheering them on throughout the game.
